When choosing what to bake for Mother's Day this weekend, I decided to pick a recipe from my trusty Mary Berry's Baking Bible. Having never made meringue (successfully) before, I decided a recipe from Aunt Bezza is one I could trust.
I ventured over the weekend in search of fancy cars and Bleekcer Street burgers.
I wish I had my very own pastel shaded Cadillac, but for now I guess I'll just have to spend a sunny weekend morning posing next to them...
Usually I cheat and pop a splash of caramel essence into my bakes, or use Bonne Maman's confiture de caramel. However, making it myself has been at the top of my recipe list for some time. I kept putting it off in fear of swishing molten sugar around a pan and it all being a disaster. I've seen Masterchef, even the clever ones struggle sometimes.
